These news websites were the most visible for technology keywords in Google News26. June 2018
As Facebook and other social media are increasingly providing mixed results for news websites looking for readers, a tried and true source of search referrals is Google News (news.google.com).
As part of the News Dashboard’s Google visibility monitoring — which crawls Google News and the SERPs (or search engine results pages) for individual keywords every 15 minutes — we see what publishers are most visible for the keywords associated with each Google News category, from Top Stories to Health.
These category analyses were completed before the mid-May Google News redesign that removed the Google News Related keywords, but are still instructive on the most visible publishers.
In this post, we will show the Top 5 most visible publishers October 2017-April 2018 for keywords in the Technology category on Google News U.S.
The Verge (owned by Vox Media), GameSpot, CNET, Forbes and Kotaku (owned by the Gizmodo Media Group) round out the Top 5 most visible publishers in the Technology category. This group runs the gamut in tech news, so it might be helpful to look at a short description of each from their own websites:
The Verge – “An ambitious multimedia effort founded in 2011 to examine how technology will change life in the future for a massive mainstream audience.”
GameSpot – “Video game news and reviews”
CNET – “Product reviews, how-tos, deals and the latest tech news”
Forbes – “a global media company, focusing on business, investing, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and lifestyle.”
Kotaku – “the gamer’s guide”
Here, we see the pattern of two more general-interest publishers (The Verge and Forbes) along with CNET – which is specifically dialed in to tech news. And then, two more specialized publishers, in this case focusing on video games, which can make up a bulk of the Technology category keywords on any given day.
