What news outlets covered the Golden Globes in 8 countries
21. January 2022The first awards of 2022 – the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards – were just granted and it definitely brought up a discussion on what awards are still needed and what impact they do and should have. Judges, winners and attendees spoke louder than words about the mind-set of the current times and surely a lot will change in the coming years, but we want to take a look at the words that have been written. So for this analysis we composed a short keyword set and looked at the time span between the 1st and 12th of January on Google’s mobile SERP – Let’s look at the 5 most visible publishers for Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Austria and the highest impact keyword in those countries from an SEO perspective. You can find the chosen keywords for each country and news elements below.
Belgium:
Until the 5th of January youtube.com was the most visible publisher, then hln.be took over briefly around the same period. Although in the last two days standaard.be was on top after having no visibility until the 9th of January. Additionally, vrt.be and nieuwsblad.be made it to the top 5. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes live”.
France:
Again, videos via youtube.com took the lead and were only taken over by huffingtonpost.fr and tf1.fr as the top 1 on the 5th and 6th of January. The other publishers in the top 5 were francetvinfo.fr and lemonde.fr. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes”.
Germany:
While youtube.com is still on top for the first four days augsburger-allgemeine.de is at a close second in the beginning. However, spiegel.de and web.de also make it to the top for one day each. Though, zeit.de nearly takes over on the 8th. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes 2022”.
Netherlands:
We surely see a pattern here with youtube.com at the top in the beginning. But unlike in other countries the Dutch publishers get really strong after the fourth of January with nu.nl making the most of the provided keywords. Nevertheless, elle.com and ad.nl also make their way to the top. Another honorable mention is gids.tv as part of the top 5. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes live”.
Spain:
Youtube.com on top for the first days will as come no surprise, but another publisher is able to snatch the crown for a few days – cnn.com. Elcomercio.pe and elpais.com were also on top for one day each, while vogue.mx made the top 5 besides having nearly no visibility throughout the first 9 days. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes”.
Switzerland (German):
We already got to know youtube.com as the strongest publisher by far, though watson.ch got to be on top for one third of the time, which is more than in any other country so far. Interestingly, one other website made the top brownejacobson.com with livestreams for both the Golden Globes and Critic’s Choice Awards. Srf.ch and faz.net also made it to the top 5. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes live”.
Switzerland (French):
In the beginning youtube.com’s rankings made up nearly 100 percent of the visible content in the news elements and they consistently stayed on top. 20min.fr, brownejacobson.com, huffingtonpost.fr and lemonde.fr made up the rest of the top 5. With clear favoritism for video content it will come as no surprise that the keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes live”.
United Kingdom:
Again, youtube.com is mostly on top, but their visibility doesn’t drop to nearly nothing like in most other countries over time. Additionally, the other top publishers theguardian.com, cheatsheet.com, dailymail.co.uk and independent.co.uk stay strong during the whole duration. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes”.
Austria:
In Austria we see a more competitive field of publishers with changing leaders from the 5th of January onwards. We have youtube.com as Google’s video platform in the top 5, two german news papers augsburger-allgemeine.de and faz.net, one British law firm brownejacobson.com again with the livestreams and ots.at as the only Austrian website in the top department. All in all, there were only two newspapers in the top 5. The keyword with the most rankings was: “golden globes 2022”.
