Most visible publishers in Google’s news-related rankings for Oscar 2019 nominations

The year’s Oscar nominations took their fair share of drama – who was included and who was excluded – not to mention the possible host-less ceremony.

Using the News Dashboard, we analyzed the news most visible for keywords on the nods on announcement day – Jan. 22, 2o19.

News Dashboard methodology

The News Dashboard is an analytics and SEO tool that looks specifically at Google search visibility for news websites. You can examine your visibility in Google News (news.google.com) in each category – US, World, Local, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, and Health. You can also dive into your visibility – in the news-related ranking types on the search engine results pages (SERPs), called Desktop News Boxes; Mobile Visibility Overall; Mobile News Boxes; Mobile News Carousels; Mobile AMP Carousels; Mobile Publisher Carousels; Video Carousels; and first-page organic rankings.

For this analysis, we use our automatically imported keywords, in other words, the keywords are “trending” from Google News as well as Google Trends. The News Dashboard extracts these keywords every 15 minutes, or 96 times per day.

For Jan. 22, let’s take a look at  Oscars.go.com, the official Academy Awards website. We often see that the organization falls behind in the Mobile Publisher Carousels because there are so many other articles from Google. Unsurprisingly, their top keyword for visibility was “academy awards.”

Bonus: Top publishers in Google News Entertainment category for Jan. 22

Instead of just focusing on our Oscars keyword cluster, this Jan. 22. In this case, youtube.com is by far the top publisher, followed by:

people.com

foxnews.com

huffingtonpost.com

cnn.com
