12 months of rankings: Most visible U.S. news publishers in Google News, Top Stories boxes
18. October 2019
Another 12 months, another group of millions of news-related rankings we’ve crawled with the News Dashboard.
Our last U.S. search index analysis was in September 2018, so we’ve decided to write a full analysis of all the months between then and now.
News Dashboard methodology
The News Dashboard is an analytics and SEO tool that looks specifically at Google search visibility. All of the Google News categories – Top Stories, U.S., World, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science and Health – are considered in this analysis.
Mobile News Box
CNN, the New York Times and Fox News compete for the top 3 spots in the Mobile News Box.
Here are a few of the top articles for most visible publishers from October 2018 to September 2019 in the mobile News Boxes:

Desktop Visibility Overall
In August, the YouTube visibility lines dips after we released an update that added the visibility that publishers got from their YouTube videos into their publisher lines.
The Desktop Visibility Overall report includes the News Box (headline, text and carousel) and Video Carousel in the desktop SERPs:

Mobile Video Carousels
YouTube takes the lead with visibility in mobile video carousels by a considerable amount compared to its predecessors.
In this case, we considered only the mobile Video Carousel ranking type. YouTube is undoubtedly receiving the most visibility – but unlike the others, YouTube in a video platform and not a news publisher.
